Kindergarten All Grades:
1.  Go over lab rules and meet the teacher by watching this

2.  Play Stump the Students to reinforce rules. (or view on Slideshare, click on get file from above player)
Pass out name cards, assign student seats, write thier name and computer number on the card.
3.  Have students Explore Paint

Lesson 2:  Program Focus=Paint  
Kindergarten Watch how to use Paint Basics 2007
How to use Paint 2010 basics!
Model and practice logging on.  Model how to click and double click.  Open Paint program.
As I model how to draw various shapes, lines, and text, students will copy what I do in the Paint program.
Let students explore on own.
Model how to Print.
1st Read:  "Ten Apples Up on Top."

Either upload a picture of each student and have students copy and paste their picture into Paint (if photos aren't available, then have them draw a face.  Draw an apple and  copy and paste it to the top of their head.  
Add a text box that says, "____ apples up on top."  Add name to text box.  
Minimize and play game.
Teach how to save one on one while others are playing game.

Students will use Paint to design a Mr. Potato Head.  Click here to show students sample pictures of a Mr. Potato Head coloring book, so that they can get ideas.

Students will use the Paint program to Paint a gumball machine.  First I will model and then they will copy.

How to use Paint 2010 basics!
How to paint a pizza with Paint 2010

Students will use the paint program to create a drawing of a pizza. Then they will use copy and paste to add different ingredients to their pizza. The children start with a basic shape for the pizza. Then they fill in with a color that reminds them of the pizza crust. We add the sauce using the airbrush tool with the widest spray. Next, we use the thicker paintbrush to add pieces of green pepper. We make one piece of pepperoni and use the copy and paste technique to add more pepperoni to it. You can do the same for mushrooms. Finally, the children use the airbrush technique to add melted cheese as the final topping.

Save.

Week 2:

Students will insert a picture of their pizza into Word.  Students will type a descriptive paragraph about their pizza.  

Teach students how to save and Print.

Week 2:  Students will write a simile to go with their symmetrical design.  They will create one slide in PPT and then save to the H and N drives.

Lesson 3  
Kindergarten Students will practice mouse skills, such as moving the mouse, clicking, and drag and drop.

1st Kidspiration:
Students will use Kidspiration to make a web showing the four seasons.  They will use the writing tool to  then type one sentence about each season.  They will learn how to print.
2nd Read:  "If You Take A Mouse To School."
Have students copy and paste a picture of the Mouse into the Paint program.

Paint something that the Mouse from the story might ask for.  Add a text box that names what was painted.
Add name to text box.  
Minimize and play Carnival Countdown.
Teach how to save one on one while others are playing game.
3rd Students will learn about constellations and create thier own.  See example below:

1.  Watch Constellations (45 seconds) The Stars and Seasons (1 minute) The North Star (1 1/2 minutes)  Astronomy (1 minute)
      *Have students record important facts as they view.  Share when finished.
2.  Have students open Paint.  Students will create a constellation, name it, and type at least one fact learned from the videos.
3.  Print and save to H drive.

1.  Discuss the topic Fall
2.  Have students type a poem about fall
3.  Copy and paste the poem into wordle.net
4.  Print the poem with the wordle cloud above it.

Extra enrichment activity using Paint:
Students will create a non verbal t-shirt using Paint.  They will copy and paste the blank t-shirt into Paint and then create a design without using words that illustrates their likes, hobbies, sports, etc.  Review how to print.

Kindergarten Read:  "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom."
Students will then use the Paint program to draw a palm tree and add letter to the picture as if they are running up the tree.  Have students add a text box and type their name.

1st Students will learn about how to write a story with a beginning, middle, and end.  
Students will access the PBS Kids Story Factory.
They will insert pictures and type three sentences (one for beginning, middle, and end)

2nd 2 Week Lesson

Week 1:  Students will use a glyph to draw a turkey in paint. Save and Print.

5th Students will learn about the 5 parts of a letter and use MS Word to write letters to send to overseas American soldiers.
1.  Model the five parts of a letter:
  • Heading (address and date in top right corner)
  • Greeting (Dear, Hello, or To,  and comma)
  • Body (content of letter)
  • Closing (From, Your Friend, and comma)
  • Signature

2.  Students type a letter to an American soldier. Print.  
3.  I will mail them to soldiers currently stationed in Afghanistan.



Lesson 10  

Kindergarten Students will watch United Streaming:  Thanksgiving Day:  America Celebrates (15 Minutes)
Students will create a PowerPoint "Thanksgiving Counting."
They will learn how to select slides to work with and enter the correct number on each slide.  They will learn how to play the PowerPoint.
